I had to break down and eat one of our eggs in deviled form for Thanksgiving. That's the hard part of being the one to make something, you have to taste it to make sure you've done the seasonings right, and guess what--this time it was one of my chicken's eggs. Although I thought it tasted good, I had to run Joe Rogan's voice (of Fear Factor fame) through my head as he says, "It's all in your mind!" I know darn well these eggs are healthy, clean, non-hormoned, non-meat, non-everything else the factory eggs are pumped full of, it's just that I personally know the rear end of where each egg has popped out of, and that's the hard part.
The neighbor girl just came over to tell me her grandma's cat is stuck up in our tree. Sure enough, the only tall tree between our house and their house, there's a big cat up there, looking down at us. She's not sure what scared it up there (their mean, trash-robbing dog, perhaps? I don't know, just a guess....) but it's been there for a couple of days, she said.
When we first moved here, we got a new little kitten who was still tiny vulnerable. One of his first days outside and the neighbor's dog must have smelled new kill from his house, because he ran over here as we were outside working in the yard and chased our cat up a tree in the front, barking from the base of the tree for hours afterwards. You could see the cat shaking up there, and every so often it would climb just a little bit higher. The neighbor came over and said, "Oh--it'll come down when it's hungry" and added, "If our dog does something dumb, just kick it."
Of course the cat eventually came down, and now he just runs under the house when the dogs come over. And to date, I've never kicked the neighbors dog, but did think I might have poisoned it once with a thawing turkey carcass out in the woods.
